We are having our first Farm Where You Live Pie Bake-Off! The pie bake-off is open to all bakers. Pies will be assessed based on appearance, crust, filling, and overall flavor and taste. Don’t have baking skills? No worries! Come to the competition and try the pies by the slice.

Next Steps Today is a process that provides men the opportunities to rise up, be empowered, and create movement with change in their current situation; and in return will create momentum in all areas of their lives, those around them, and in the community.

Pie Bake-Off Rules

  1. Entries should be in the name of the person who baked the pie.

  2. Please include a full recipe (typed) with list of ingredients and directions.

  3. One entry per person. Each entry includes two (2) pies: one for the judges, and one to sell by the slice.

  4. There is a $20 entry fee and the event will be limited to 30 adults (16+) and 25 youth (up to age 15 at time of contest) contestants.

  5. Youth contestants must bake their entries themselves with limited help.

  6. Neither the organizers of this event nor any representatives from Barefoot Acres Farm are in any way responsible for the distribution of your containers. All entries should be presented in disposable pie pans covered with a sealed container, a Ziploc bag or a new bag with a twist tie inside. We cannot be responsible for anything that breaks.

  7. Winners will be required to have their photos taken for promotional use.

  8. A copy of your recipe and photo may be featured in our local media.

  9. The contest is open to all bakers.

  10. Awards will be given for First, Second, Youth and People’s Choice. The winners of each category will receive a cash prize.

  11. Pies that need special handling, refrigeration or heating elements are not allowed.

  12. The finished pie cannot contain raw/uncooked eggs (white or yokes).

  13. Pies are scored on appearance, crust, filling and overall taste.

  14. Following the judging, all the pies will be sold by the slice.

  15. Bring The TWO IDENTICAL PIES to Barefoot Acres between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. on October 15th. Judging begins at 11:00 am. Winners will be announced at the Farm Where You Live Concert in the evening.
